Sourced from algae

Algae is one of the main starting points for omega 3 in the food chain. Fish get their Omega 3 by eating algae or because they eat other fish which have eaten algae. Omega 3 from fish can contain toxins, depending on what the fish has eaten. Our Omega 3 is ethically and sustainably sourced directly from algae. One tonne of algal oil is equivalent to 60 tonnes of wild-caught fish.

Why is Omega 3 good for you?

Omega 3 fats are particularly beneficial for heart health, brain function and eye health. The best sources are oily fish such as mackerel, salmon and trout. Plant sources of the short-chain omega 3s known as ALA (alpha-linolenic acid) include flax, hemp, chia and pumpkin seeds, walnuts and grapeseed oil. These foods can help maintain normal cholesterol levels. The body can convert ALA into EPA and DHA fatty acids, but the process is not very efficient as less than 10% is converted. An omega 3 supplement containing EPA and DHA can be beneficial for vegetarians, vegans or those who don’t eat any oily fish.

How many Omega 3 can I take?

Our Vegan Omega 3 is made up of 1000mg algae oil which provides 550mg of Omega 3, 300mg EPA and 150mg DHA per serving. The official recommendation for Omega 3 daily consumption is 250mg per day of combined EPA and DHA. However, algae oil has a higher DHA content which is why our supplement has 300mg DHA and 150mg EPA.

A registered nutritional therapist may prescribe a higher dose of Omega 3 as a therapeutic dose short term but it is never wise to increase the dosage of any supplements without consulting a doctor.

How to take

Take two softgels daily. You can take your softgels in the morning, daytime or evening, together or separately, and with or without food.
