Self-adhesive fabric for secure fixation of dressings, tubes and cannulas

Mefix® is a self-adhesive fabric for secure fixation of dressings, tubes and cannulas. Breathable but water-resistant, Mefix provides protection from outside contamination. Mefix consists of an apertured, non-woven polyester fabric coated with a layer of an acrylic adhesive, and protected on the roll by a release paper backing. The apertured structure imparts a degree of lateral extensibility and conformability to the product, which has a high tensile strength and must be cut with scissors.

Mefix is available in a range of widths and is sometimes referred to as a `dressing retention sheet’. Because the tape is permeable to water vapour, it is unlikely to cause tissue maceration or be adversely affected by sweating. As both the fabric and the adhesive mass are radio-transparent, Mefix does not have to be removed if the patient is to be X-rayed. Mefix is both gentle on the skin and skin friendly, and its conformability makes it comfortable to wear.

  • Provides secure fixation
  • Provides cover and protection against contamination
  • Easy to use

Composition

Spunlace Polyester Fabric, Polyacrylate Adhesive

Directions

Cut to appropriate size. Separate the two parts of the protection paper by lightly stretching and bending the Mefix. Remove the narrow part. Apply the part with the exposed adhesive to the skin. Remove the remaining protection paper. Firmly smooth Mefix to obtain proper adhesion. Do not stretch Mefix when applying.

Mefix® can be used to fixate dressings, swabs, catheters and tubes - and in a wide variety of other situations where fixation is required. Please be careful not to apply Mefix® under tension, as this may cause shearing forces, which can damage the skin. This is particularly important over joints.

Note: If required, Mefix® can be applied lengthwise over the dressing, peeling away the release paper in a ‘strip’. To apply in this manner do not break the perforation in the release paper. Instead, pull the release paper back 3-5 cm from top, fixate to skin above dressing and gently apply Mefix® lengthwise over the dressing.
