Instead, they take 500 to 700 years to break down into smaller pieces called microplastics. Period products are the 5th most common item found on beaches in Europe, according to the European Commission.

The price of single-use pads

In addition to the adverse effects on the environment, single-use sanitary products cost a lot of money over time. In 5 years, you can spend between 130 and 400€ on female hygiene products. Over the course of your life, this can add up to 14.000€ for disposable female hygiene products.

The reusable options

Luckily, there are several reusable alternatives to single-use sanitary products. Internal solutions such as menstrual cups or external solutions like reusable menstrual pads. A reusable sanitary pad is the healthiest option for you because menstrual cups or tampons can lead to a dangerous stagnation of blood in your body.

Composition

PUL - Slightly elastic, it ensures the pad remains leakproof in any circumstances.

Microfiber - The microfiber layer is a highly absorbing material.

Bamboo charcoal - This layer gives you softness and comfort, while the infused bamboo charcoal ensures complete odour control.

Cleaning instructions

  • The pads should be washed before initial use.
  • 1. Rinse: Clean the pads with cool water after each use. Either soak in cold water for 30 minutes or rinse under cold, running water. It is advisable not to use hot water, to avoid long-term stains.
  • 2. Washing: The sanitary pads can be washed by hand or in the washing machine at 40 °C.
  • 3. Drying: Always allow the sanitary towels to air dry as they could shrink in the dryer. The pads are made of fast-drying material and can be used again after a few hours.

Tips

  • Baking soda is a natural stain remover. It can help get rid of stubborn stains when rinsing.
  • Vinegar is ideal as a softener. Simply add a little vinegar while soaking the sanitary pad. This will soften the material.
